Biography
Saj Shah is a dual-qualified lawyer and pharmacist. He is Director of Pharmaceutical Consultancy at Epalan Limited. Epalan is a specialist risk management consultancy offering services to those working within the reproductive, pharmacogenetic and pharmaceutical industries. Saj is also a key member of the Healthcare team at Bevan Brittan solicitors. Bevan Brittan is a leading UK law firm developing innovative legal solutions in the health sector. His extensive hands-on experience in the healthcare sector has equipped him with a genuine understanding of the issues facing the sector today. His knowledge and experience in the field of pharmacy and medical law enables him to deliver practical solutions to legal problems in the field.

Saj advises both public and private organisations on pharmacy and medical law issues, particularly with regard to risk management. He has handled a wide range of clinical negligence claims on behalf of the National Health Service; dealt with coroner’s inquests in which medication errors were raised; and high profile commercial litigation defence work on behalf of a pharmaceutical company. Saj also provides regular training to healthcare professionals, hospital managers and pharmaceutical businesses on current health and pharmacy issues.

Last year he was invited as a speaker at a conference on “Non-doctor Prescribing” chaired by Dr June Crown CBE (past President of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine who recommended the introduction of supplementary and independent non-doctor prescribing in the UK).

Saj is accredited by the 2004 Legal 500, a directory of top UK law firms, which states: “The appointment of qualified pharmacist Saj Shah in 2003 was a further asset to the [Bevan Brittan] team...Saj Shah advises hospital departments on risk management and liability issues.”

Prior to his legal career, Saj worked as a pharmacist in both the hospital and retail sectors. He managed and developed his own independent community pharmacy business before selling it to a leading pharmaceutical company. He has also worked for and managed stores for UK market leaders such as Boots the Chemist and Lloyds Chemists. Saj was also a pre-registration tutor for trainee pharmacists.

Saj is a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, the Pharmacy Law & Ethics Association and the Law Society of England and Wales.
